Projects - Path from Damascus

I was shown mercy… so that Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. 1 Timothy 1:16 (NIV)

The Path from Damascus is a video summary of the powerful testimony included in the book The Fifth Pillar, a first-hand account of how an educated, young Arab Muslim named Nabil1 came to faith in Jesus Christ.

Path from DamascusOver 45,000 copies of The Fifth Pillar have been distributed worldwide in nine languages, such as Arabic, English, French, Polish, German and Spanish. The Path from Damascus DVD will be distributed alongside the Arabic-language copy of The Fifth Pillar. The authenticity of Nabil’s own voice (in Arabic) brings credibility to the fact that Muslims can in fact come to faith in Christ.

Although Nabil performed the pilgrimage to Mecca (the Hajj) which is the fifth pillar of Islam, his spiritual journey led him to a radically different discovery. Today Nabil lives out this life-changing discovery and he gladly shares his story with Muslims – demonstrating that it is possible for them to accept Christ, and that in Him they can have a hope and a future, despite the reality of hardship and even persecution.

The Arab Muslim world holds strongly to the foundational belief that Muslims do not become Christians or remain faithful to Christ in the long run. And yet, people are interested in the gospel – and some 25,000 of them visit our Arabic-language websites Maarifa and Shabiba every month to seek information about Christianity and what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

The Path from Damascus will be circulated throughout the Arab world and to enquirers coming in through AWM’s Arabic-language websites. It will:

  • Provide church planters with a practical tool that will demonstrate that there are believers in Christ in the Arab world and that despite pressures or persecution from family, society and state, it is possible for them to persevere through hardships in following Christ
  • Show that, through the testimony of Nabil, Muslims can have a hope and a future despite the reality of hardship and even persecution
  • Communicate that being a disciple of Jesus is a journey of transformation to becoming Christ-like while discovering God’s grace and sovereignty despite one’s failures, shortcomings and human weakness
  • Demonstrate that leaving Islam to be a follower of Christ in the Arab world does not mean becoming a traitor or immoral person; nor is it turning to a Western religion or culture. Instead, it means a relationship with the true, living God and a life of sacrifice, self-denial, forgiveness and peace through the person and work of Christ

For Muslims from the Arab world, this DVD will be a concrete demonstration that there are Muslims who have become believers in Christ and that there are those who persevere, choosing to endure hardships in obedience to the call of Christ on their lives.
