The church in North Africa is growing. Every day people are added to the body of Christ. It is estimated that there are now over 40,000 Kabyle Christians in Algeria where small churches and communities of believers are led by lay leaders.

It is within this context that PALM equips future church leaders in North Africa. The North African church is very young and is crying out for access to quality training and discipleship materials, which are essential for it to thrive and grow into maturity.

Rooted in the Word is a strategic initiative to enhance AWM’s discipleship and theological training programme (PALM) for the church in North Africa.

Our vision is to produce 50 short videos that will serve as an introduction and a concise overview of each of the Level One courses produced by our PALM training ministry

This training video series will be used in a variety of ways which include:

• Training events targeted towards future leaders of the North African church
• Satellite TV broadcasts specifically designed for North Africa
• AWM Media’s new online mentored discipleship programme, due to be launched in 2008

AWM’s vision is to see mature, multiplying churches among all Muslim peoples of the Arab world. We want to see believers grow in the likeness of Christ and be rooted in the Word of God.

The PALM programme was established in 1999 to provide training and resource materials that can nurture young believers to Christian maturity and prepare them for ministry. It has been widely embraced by the North African church and has made a significant contribution to the building of Christ’s Church across the region.

The fact that North Africans are oral communicators strongly influences the way in which people learn. In presenting course material in a visual format, this series of training DVDs will greatly enhance the ability of local churches to provide much-needed training for people with little or no theological education. This DVD series is an enhancement of the widely-used PALM training programme and will become an integral part of AWM Media’s new online mentored discipleship programme. This online programme will serve the whole of the Arabic-speaking world including North Africa, the Middle East and the Arabian Peninsula, as well as Arabs living in Europe and North America.
