Projects - Champions of Faith

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. Heb. 11:1, 2 (ESV)

Storytelling is an age-old tradition in the Arab world. Traditional stories like 1001 Nights are still told for the entertainment and education of all. If you visit the Middle East today, you will see dense crowds gathered around the storytellers. Jesus was a great storyteller. The Bible is full of stories of real people such as Joseph, Elijah, Moses, Ruth and Esther.

Champions of Faith is a media concept that began as a radio programme and is expanding to embrace television and the internet. It is directed to Arabic-speaking Muslims and specifically to Muslims who have misconceptions of what it means to stand in a personal relationship with God.

Champions of FaithThe spiritual content is contained in a magazine-style programme that includes elements of entertainment as well as education. Dramatic and musical elements both attract the attention of the audience and communicate spiritual truth. Teaching elements of the programme address the intellectual interests of the audience and stimulate interaction with the programme’s producers.

Regular communication with AWM field workers and Muslim background believers helps the producers to meet the real needs of the audience/viewers when preparing the programmes.

Champions of Faith explores the lives of biblical characters that are also revered in Islam, highlighting their personal faith and walk with the Lord. The concept that man is created in the likeness of God and is meant to have a personal relationship with Him is noticeably absent in Islamic thinking. This radio and television series aims to speak into this belief by helping the audience to walk in the shoes of biblical characters and encouraging them to grow in their understanding of who God really is – both His character and His desire to be known by them.

Muslims live in a spiritual enclosure that leaves them with little or no opportunity to explore faith in Jesus Christ. By using radio, television and the internet, Champions of Faith reaches into this isolation and introduces the audience to a living God who seeks to stand in a personal relationship with them.

  • Through this series, we aim to help Muslims understand that each one of us is created in the image of God and for a purpose: to live in a relationship with Him.

We also want to explore with the audience, through the characters from the Bible, that living in relationship with God:

  • Means that we bring to Him our struggles, failings, insecurities, hurts, anger, feelings of rejection, etc
  • Entails living a life of sacrifice, self-denial and, above all, forgiveness through the person and work of Jesus Christ and that it entails a journey of transformation into the likeness of Christ

In 2008 we aim to produce 52 half hour television programmes, 52 fifteen-minute radio programmes, and re-edit these for internet distribution.
